Extractions
Tooth extraction is the removal of a tooth from its socket in the bone. This can be a simple procedure as in the case of a loose tooth or it can be more involved as in the removal of wisdom teeth. Depending on the complexity of the case will determine whether a referral to an oral surgeon is necessary.
Common reasons for a tooth extraction might be:
- decay, infection or trauma to a tooth that renders the tooth non-restorable.
- gum and bone. deterioration around a tooth.
- baby teeth that don’t fall out and are preventing the permanent teeth from coming in.
- orthodontic treatment might require tooth extraction to create room for the teeth as they move into place.
- wisdom teeth, also called third molars, are often extracted either before or after they come in
