Root Canals

Root canal treatment is the removal of the nerve and blood vessels from the tooth. Once this material is removed, the remaining space is cleaned, shaped and filled with a putty like material called gutta percha. This procedure seals off the interior of the tooth. A crown or other restoration is then placed on the tooth to restore the exterior.

The most common reasons for needing root canal treatment are:

  • Infection
  • A deep cavity that invades the nerve.
  • Trauma to a tooth that kills the nerve.
